This week our class went on a very exciting walk around Clifton Campville as part of our English learning inspired by the story Katie in London. In the story, Katie explores famous landmarks in London, so we decided to explore the special places in our own village instead!
To make our adventure even more fun, we took Pig the Pug with us to see what he thought of our village.
Our first stop was the village hall, where we talked about how it is used by people in our community. As we continued our walk, we met a very friendly dog called Biscuit who came over to say hello!
Next, we visited St Andrew's Church. The children looked carefully at the building and spotted the clock on the church tower, which we added to our village observation checklist.
We then walked up to the Millennium Green, where the children enjoyed looking at the open space and talking about why green spaces are important for people and wildlife.
Our adventure continued to the park and then into the woodland area, where the children listened carefully to the sounds around them and looked for signs of nature.
On our way back to school we passed the The Green Man and spotted our bright red telephone box, which is a well-known feature in many British villages.
The children did an excellent job observing their surroundings and talking about the different places we saw. This walk will help us as we begin to adapt our story and create our own version called “Katie in Clifton Campville.”
We can’t wait to start writing our own village adventure!
