Class Two

In DT we will be making seasonal tarts. In preparation for our cooking, the children have been learning techniques to cut and peel a variety of fruits/vegetables. 

Today Willow and Maple were visited by Lizzie from the Staffordshire History Centre to look at childhood through the ages. Our main focus was play and toys.

We were able to look at how toys were made in the past and make connections to our own childhoods.

In Science we have been making solutions,which are special types of mixtures. We mixed 5 different substances with water to see if they dissolved.

In Science we have created our own filters to clean water. We had to use 6 different layers of materials which would trap the dirt but allow the water through. Our water was much cleaner at the end but we still wouldn’t drink it!

In Science we have been learning about mixtures. We have discovered you can separate mixtures that have different sized particle by sieving. We became gold prospectors and created our own sieves to see how much gold we could extract from the sand.

In English Willow class, to link with our topic on the Stone Age, have been reading Stone Age Boy.

We then wrote our own stories based on this story.

In Science, Willow class have been investigating the viscosity of liquids and how it affects how they pour.

We carried out our experiments using our plans from the previous lesson and recorded the results.

Using our  circuit building knowledge we designed and created a working torch. You can tell by these pictures how pleased we are with the results.

Some of the children in Willow class sat in our outdoor reflection area for our morning worship today.

Our theme for Art week centred round marine preservation, particularly the dangers of plastic in the ocean.

We discussed how art can have a purpose and is often quite poignant.

In our sketch book we planned our piece of art and began collecting plastic recycling to add to the art.

Willow class have thoroughly enjoyed designing and creating book covers. We thought carefully about the appropriate fastenings and how we will add the details.
