How does sound travel?
We have been learning how the string carries the sound waves, vibrates the cup and vibrates their ear drum for us to hear what our friends said. The string is a solid so the sound waves travel quickly.
After a discussion we recorded our findings in our books.
How are sounds made?
In Science we were experimenting with different ways to make sounds and recording which part was vibrating.
Animal Kingdom Explorers!
It has been a busy two weeks of Science! We have been learning how to group and identify different animals.
In KS1, we moved from sorting animals to identifying why they belong in a specific group. We looked for clues like:
- Mammals: Do they have fur or hair?
- Birds: Do they have feathers…
Science Investigation: What Materials Are Waterproof?
This week in Maple Class, the children took part in a hands-on science investigation to explore which materials are waterproof.
We began by looking at and feeling a range of different materials, such as paper, fabric, plastic and foil. The children talked about what the materials felt like and…
Wonderful Water Workshop in Maple Class!
This week, Maple Class enjoyed a fantastic Water Workshop led by a visitor from South Staffs Water. The session began with a lovely story called Little Drop, which helped the children learn all about the water cycle — how water travels from the clouds to the ground and back again!
After the…
Investigating the strength of magnets.
The children in Willow class used their investigative skills to test the strength of different types of magnets, and whether the size of the magnet affected the strength.
Sensory Scavenger Hunt Fun!
This week, our Reception class took their learning outside for a sensory scavenger hunt, and what a wonderful adventure it was! As part of Maple Class' Scie topic on using our five senses, we explored the world around us using our eyes, ears, noses, and hands to discover all sorts of natural…
Water resistance
We have been learning about water resistance. To test our theories we have been exploring the idea of streamlining. We have learnt that large shapes experience more water resistance and so move more slowly through the water.
Investigating friction
In Science today the children investigated how friction plays a part in movement. They investigated different materials to see which one had the most friction.
Forces
In science we have been learning about forces. We used 3 different sized balloons to test how much air resistance was acting against them. We found out that the largest balloon fell the slowest because there was more air resistance.
Popping with Our Senses!
This week in Science, Maple Class had an exciting lesson exploring all five senses as part of our sensitive bodies topic — and what better way to do it than with popcorn!
We started by listening carefully as we crushed the popcorn in our hands to hear the crackle and crunch sounds. It was…
Exploring forces
In our science lesson we are investigating pull, push and twist forces. Looking into how different actions have different results.
