It has been a busy two weeks of Science! We have been learning how to group and identify different animals.

In KS1, we moved from sorting animals to identifying why they belong in a specific group. We looked for clues like:

  • Mammals: Do they have fur or hair?
  • Birds: Do they have feathers and a beak?
  • Fish: Do they have gills and scales?
  • Reptiles: Is their skin dry and scaly?
  • Amphibians: Is their skin cold and slimy?

???? Reception: Tactile Textures

Our Reception scientists joined in with a fantastic creative task! They have been making animal collages using different materials to represent animal "coverings."

They used:

  • Soft felt for mammal fur.
  • Bright, fluffy feathers for birds.
  • Shiny foil and sequins for shimmering fish scales.
  • Textured card for bumpy reptile skin.

This hands-on activity helped the children really feel the difference between the animal groups.

Great work, everyone!
