Shadows
We have been learning about shadows in science. We have worked in groups to carry out a scientific enquiry to investigate how the distance of a light source affects the size of a shadow. We have discovered that the further away the light source is,the smaller the shadow is.
The Sound Collector Visits St. Andrew’s!
As part of our exciting poetry unit based on The Sound Collector by Roger McGough, the children in our mixed EYFS and Year 1 class became real-life sound detectives!
We took a walk around St. Andrew’s School—both inside and out—to tune into the sounds all around us. The children listened…
Growing Scientists!
This week, our young botanists in EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2 continued their exciting plant investigation by checking in on their sunflower seeds – and wow, what a change we saw!
We filled in our second plant diary entry and noticed that all our sunflower plants had grown taller and sprouted…
Temperature testing with Micro:bits
Building on their coding knowledge, the class decided to test the temperature in different parts of the school. Some created warnings using their Micro:bits if the temperature rise above a certain level. Very practical idea in the heat.
Some examples of the children’s…
Shadows
In science we have been learning about how we can change the size of shadows. We carried out an investigation to explore how the length of shadows changes over the day.
Thinktank Museum Trip
What a fantastic day exploring different areas of Science.
Programming robots, controlling a Mars rover, exploring fossils, getting hands on with modern technology such as heat cameras and manufacturing-a busy day! Even had time to become forensic investigators, solving a crime using different…
Super Scientists on Tour: Our Amazing Trip to the Think Tank!
As part of our exciting Science Week, our KS1 class had an unforgettable trip to the Birmingham Think Tank!
From the moment we arrived, curiosity was buzzing! We kicked things off in the Science Garden, where the children explored giant hands-on experiments – spinning wheels, pulleys, and…
Super Sunflowers and a Planting Experiment
This week, our brilliant EYFS and KS1 scientists got their hands dirty as we planted sunflower seeds as part of our Plants: Growth science unit. We discussed what plants need to grow and then gave our seeds everything they needed: soil, water, warmth and sunlight.
But... We didn’t stop there!…
Light
In science we have been learning about light. We have discovered that our eyes are not light sources so without light we wouldn’t be able to see. We tested this by covering our eyes with a black hat. We couldn’t see a thing!
We then looked at reflective surfaces. We came to the conclusion…
Planting Sunflowers.
We have had great fun planting sunflower seeds. We have been learning about what plants need to stay healthy as part of our science topic, so we are going use what we have learnt to look after our sunflowers and hopefully watch them grow. I wonder whose will grow the tallest?
Our Daily Mile Investigation
As part of Class One’s health and life cycles science unit, we have been investigating how results can change over time. The children took part in the Daily Mile every afternoon for the week, running, jogging or walking around the field for five minutes each day. Each time, they carefully recorded…
Irreversible Changes-solutions
For this experiment we used baking soda and vinegar to create an irreversible change. We used differing amounts to see how much CO2 was created by the reaction by capturing the gas in a balloon and then measuring.
